This memorial is actually the largest American War Memorial and Cemetery in the world, larger than the Normandy cemetery, memorializing the Americans who lost their lives in WWII in the Pacific. Bea… Chris K的完整评论

Just in Manilla overnight. Flight to Ho Chi Minh City as 12:30 p.m. the next day. Google says it's 30 minutes from the airport. I thought I'd try to be there when the doors open at 9 a.m. My uncle is memorialized there. I simply want to get a photo next to his name. Is it realistic for me to do that and catch my 12:30 to Saigon if I'm there when the doors open at 9? Also, does every soldier whose name is listed on the memorial also have a head stone? My uncle was MIA. His name is in the center memorial ... just wondered if those men have a nameless headstone also, or maybe not?

Due to horrendous traffic, I would think 30 minutes is ridiculously impossible just to get there, let alone see everything and then to return..... They have names of persons with NO grave stone in the memorial walkway....all shown on walls. Most Navy persons were lost or buried at sea so there is a preponderance of Navy personnel on the walls....each name listed in alphabetical order. Most of the grave sites are Army since they were usually fighting on the ground...with the exception of US Army Air Corps (now called the Air Force). With my having been there twice in 2017-18 you really need about 90 minutes (more or less depending upon how much you read because there are historical maps well worth reading too in order to better understand the Pacific campaigns) to visit the memorial, more time if you wish to walk among the graves. Traffic time is NOT included in that estimate! Traffic to and from the Airport can be terrible. I hire the same personal driver (well vetted and proven) for an entire day and he takes me where ever I ask in a safe but expeditious manner. You should plan on 1 hour each way to and from the Memorial from the Airport. As an example, it almost always takes me 2 hours to be driven from the airport to Angeles City, except late at night when we can make it in 90 minutes.
Hi! I did not know it was mandatory to have a guided tour. We used to just walk in. Do you need to book ahead of time? Many thanks! Tina
答:
There's no need for a guided tour and no need to book ahead, just visit during business hours 8am to 5pm as the War Memorial is essentially an American Mission, like a consulate.
1) Can I go there at night time? The Cemetery hours are: Sunday#TAB# 9AM–5PM Monday#TAB# 9AM–5PM Tuesday#TAB# 9AM–5PM Wednesday 9AM–5PM Thursday#TAB# 9AM–5PM Friday#TAB# 9AM–5PM Saturday#TAB# 9AM–5PM 2) Does rain prevent a visit? Except for the small chapel, the cemetery lacks covering. Visiting in the rain may be unpleasant without an umbrella and appropriate clothing.
