Depends how long you stay at each area. The sanctuary has a little train that goes around giving access to the main areas, you can get on and off as many times as you like. I like to do a complete circuit on the train to get my bearings, then wander around. Great place to visit, regardless of the weather.

I thought general admissions mean that we can enter and walk around the park for the day. Does this mean tat we will be with a tour guide the whole day?

No, I think it just means confirm the day you want to visit. I booked online and just showed the confirmation at the ticket office.

The only time you need to pay extra is for photos with koalas or the little crocodiles. Apart from that everything else is free.

It will be quite a long trip on public transport. Train from Brisbane Central Station and changing to bus at Varsity Lakes will take about 2hrs 10 mins. There is a journey planner …

It will be quite a long trip on public transport. Train from Brisbane Central Station and changing to bus at Varsity Lakes will take about 2hrs 10 mins. There is a journey planner for public transport (search translink journey planner) that might help your planning and options. Otherwise, maybe consider a shuttle / tour bus service.
