Hello Will be visiting in March and would like to know if the Panda Base Volunteer panda keeper is available be and suitable for children. We are excited to have close encounters with pandas. Also does the panda base offer the Panda photo opportunity ? Thank you

Perhaps 17 years ago when I first visited this could be arranged. Some of my companions did that. But the center has progressed, solved many scientific issues since then, the number of visitors present in the few hours I was there this year probably exceeds the number that visited in a week or more. This is not the location to handle Pandas. However, it is a wonderful viewing and learning venue. The scientists here have made a huge contribution over the last 2 decades.

Hi we have just booked a trip to China and visiting the Panda base in Sept 2021 but I see on our itinerary that we are visiting on a Saturday. Is it better to go midweek as I see some reviews mentioning the crowds. I will ask our travel planner to change days if necessary

Of course, you will have to be SOMEwhere on a Saturday during your trip, so you won't be able to avoid the crowds wherever that might end up being (try to choose wisely where you would prefer to be on a weekend as Chinese tourists LOVE to travel and visit heritage sites), but if you have the option, I would change my visit to the Panda Research Base to a day other than a Saturday. We were here relatively early on a weekday morning and it was still crowded as the pathways winding through the park can handle only so much, and EVERYONE wants to be wherever the pandas are visible.
