I’m planning a trip to Mount Pilatus in month of September 2025 and had a couple of questions. Do you think it’s better to book tickets in advance, or should I wait and check the weather 1-2 days beforehand? I want to make sure the views are clear on the day I visit. How does pricing effects this? As I am planning a budget with HFC. Also, do we need to reserve seats for the cogwheel railway and cable car, or is seating usually available without a reservation? Thanks so much for your advice!

There is a live camera on the top so you can see the weather before starting your adventure. We checked the day of and purchased two tickets without issue. Hope that helps!

Kriens is a sort of suburb of Lucerne. The train station is Mattenhof. Only two stations away from Lucern Central. Next to the station you can catch a bus to Kriens-Pilatus station …

Kriens is a sort of suburb of Lucerne. The train station is Mattenhof. Only two stations away from Lucern Central. Next to the station you can catch a bus to Kriens-Pilatus station from where the cable car starts. "Kulm" is German for a mountain or peak. A combined ticket for boat ride can be be purchased at the cable car station. But I would strongly recommend buying the Swiss Travel Pass for your entire stay. All train/bus/tram/boat rides are free. You also get 50% discount on the cable car and cog wheel train on the Pilatus route.

There are two routes to Pilatus from Lucern. 1) Take the boat or train to Alpnach. Both are free with your travel pass. Boat take 1.5 hour and not frequent but an experience in itself. From …

There are two routes to Pilatus from Lucern. 1) Take the boat or train to Alpnach. Both are free with your travel pass. Boat take 1.5 hour and not frequent but an experience in itself. From Alpnach get a cog wheel ride ticket to the Pilatus peak 2) Catch a bus to Kriens Zentrum Pilatus and walk a few minutes to the Pilatus cable car station. Here you can get a gondola ticket to Pilatus peak Most people do both, one way up and another way down. You can get full trip tickets either at Kriens or Alpnach. You also get a discount with your travel pass. I would recommend Kriens-Pilatus-Alpnach-Lucern boat route. You will end up on the Lucerne Lake at the end of the day

If I remember correctly you get the bus from outside the railway station. If you were standing at front of station it would be to your left, and a few yards up to the right. When you get off the bus cross the road and go thru a car park. Turn right when you come out car park and follow the road until you arrive at cable car
