The statue was inaugurated on November 18, 1989 by the XIVth Dalai Lama. This huge figurine depicts Lord Buddha meditating (dhyana mudra) while he is seated on a giant lotus in open air.
The shrine is shaped like the original Stupa constructed by King Ashoka. The temple contains a huge Buddha statue sitting cross-legged. Delicately carved stone railings encircle the temple complex.
