When the flag of the Hawaiian people came down in 1898, there was an amazing wailing. The Hawaiian people had done everything in their power not to be annexed by the United States.

Flags at the Hawaii State Capitol, all state offices and agencies, and the Hawaii National Guard will be flown at half-staff until Jan. 28, in accordance to the President’s proclamation.
