The Japanese chestnut has narrow leaves, smaller than either American chestnut or sweet chestnut, with small, sharply-pointed teeth and many hairs on the underside of the leaf and is the most blight-resistant species.

Leaves are oblong, pointed at the tip, and acute at the base where they join the petioles (canoe shaped), with coarsely dentate (toothed) margins. Mature leaves are light green and paper-thin, and droop down from the twigs.

2025年1月27日 · Most chestnut species are tall trees, commonly with furrowed bark when mature. The toothed leaves are lance-shaped to somewhat oval. Most male flowers are borne in long upright catkins; female flowers are arranged singly or in clusters at the base of short male catkins.

4-9 in. long and 1.5-3 in. wide dark green leaves are simple and alternate. Margins with coarse teeth that have bristly tips. Fall color yellow-gold. Light gray broad flat ridges often spiral around the trunk. Brown to orange-brown or reddish-brown twigs are glabrous and covered with scattered white lenticel. Brown buds are smooth.
