The studio was formally co-founded as a partnership in 1985 by Mark Holt, Simon Johnston and Hamish Muir. 8vo’s shared objective was to use type as the core component in the studio’s work; eschewing big ideas, illustration, and English attitudes to typography.

I offer 1-1 online tuition and mentoring structured specifically to each participant’s requirements. Following an initial free-of-charge diagnostic session via Zoom to identify and agree criteria for exploration, a series of hands-on task-based assignments will be devised to allow participants to work off-line and in their own time in their chosen areas of study.

This poster was produced to promote Hamish Muir’s participation in the 1995 edition of the Fortuny Graphic Workshop in Venice. The poster is the first use of the vector version of 8vo’s ‘Interact’ typeface. 8vo always worked at full-scale.
