2017年7月30日 · It's a nice head-canon, but you skipped the part in which the "real Zangetsu which would submit the Old Man" was always inside of Ichigo, that was what the Old Man tried to teach him in his bankai training.

So the previous forms and abilities of Zangetsu are purely a manifestation of Old Man Zangetsu. When he trained for his Bankai, he stabbed Old Man Zangetsu‘s manifested zanpakuto into the training dummy, so that’s why Old Man Zangetsu showed up instead. Ichigo also did not accept and feared his true zanpakuto spirit (hollow Zangetsu).

When Ichigo first goes into his inner world and meets Old Man Zangetsu, first he can't hear what his name was. The name was covered in black ink in the manga and Kubo said in his Klub Outside (Question #117) that it was Ichibe's doing.

2022年5月23日 · Old man zangetsu is the soul fragment of yhwach that exists in every Quincy. And this particular scene here, ichigo renamed both of these parts as "tensa zangetsu". So, yhwach's soul fragment no longer exists within ichigo as yhwach's part, but rather it exists as one part of "tensa zangetsu" (the other being his hollow+shinigami+fullbring powers).

The old man wasn't a part of Zangetsu until the reforging process, where he was accepted by the true Zangetsu. The old man was simply pretending to be Zangetsu by channelling the small portion of the true Zangetsu's power he couldn't seal away.

When Ichigo was unlocking FGT, Tensa Zangetsu tells Ichigo that they want to protect different things. Obviously Ichigo wants to protect his family and friends, but after Ichigo takes TZ's blade, TZ says that he wants to protect Ichigo.

Damn near died to Byakuya, Aizen, Ulquiorra, etc. At some point, you can tell this mf built for this life, just freaking tell him. Kubo waiting til TYBW was a blessing and a curse imo. Curse because he waited til the end to get Old Man Z involved and blessing because the anime actually benefited off that ironically.
