What is code for installing a dishwasher in the U.S.?
My installation: (Dishwasher recommends 15 - 20 amp) I ran #12 MC Flex up and over through the attic to the washer and popped out of the wall to a box attached to the inside of the cabinet next to the washer. I installed a 20A GFCI paired with the 20A breaker in the panel. I attached a #10 stranded appliance cord to the washer with a 20A plug.

2016年12月6日 · The only way the cord could be bad it seems to me would be if the plug were damaged or conductor is damaged or undersized so the dishwasher is not getting sufficient voltage under load. You could test resistance of the hot and neutral wires with the plug out, but this would not be under load.

The dishwasher's hot (black) and neutral (white) wires are the ones going into each wire nut from the left side. The power cord he used has two white wires, though, one of which is wider than the other. Those are going into each wire nut from the right side.

So those two gray conductors in the cord are your hot and neutral and the dishwasher functions the same whichever way you wire them up. But if your dishwasher has single-pole power switch, you want to pay attention to the "polarity" issue.

2019年12月16日 · Remove the cord from the dishwasher. You can't hardwire using a regular cord. Connect one end of a 12/2 NM cable to the dishwasher. All connections should be inside the junction box on the dishwasher. Connect the black & white wires of the other end of the 12/2 to the LOAD side of the GFCI receptacle. All grounds go together.

Hot while alternating isn't at ground potential and so the voltage is alternating between +120V and -120V (RMS, actual voltage peak ±170V), making you the conductor if you connect the hot wire to the dishwasher chassis and you touch it and ground. If the neutral connects to ground in the dishwasher, you've just connected up a dead short.

2019年5月5日 · As a temporary measure, I just wired an appliance cord, and ran it to an outlet. To do that, I'm running it to an extension cord, out a cabinet, and above the dishwasher. It's not ideal. Rather than put in a new outlet under the sink, I'd like to hard wire the dishwasher to its own circuit on the panel in the basement.

2020年3月31日 · I agree with the above. Still, it might be easier to hard-wire, similar to old DW. To check if you can do this, tip the new one to the side and trace how its power cord terminates. I'd bet it has the same 3 screws (usually located behind the front kick panel - so it is easy to reach when installing or removing).
