2024年10月29日 · 4. Low-End Torque. The 300 c.i. inline 6-cylinder engine may not be a diesel, but it sure acts like it. Of course, it can’t compete with a modern Power Stroke, but the engine in this 1966 F-100 that was sold on Bring a Trailer last year was built nearly 30 years before the first Power Stroke and its 283 pound-feet of torque is more than respectable for the time.

Where the V8 is loud, bragging about what it can do, the inline-6 quietly goes about its business. Maybe that’s why the 300 just feels right in a vintage Ford truck, whether it’s a clean second or third-generation Bronco, three-quarter-ton, or step-side. It adds to the experience and appreciation of driving an old truck.
