Panama's tropical climate and rich soil provide an ideal environment for a diverse array of native flowers. Among them, Madagascar periwinkle, Flame of the woods, and Flame violet stand out as the most characteristic blossoms in the region.

In Panama, you can find Madagascar periwinkle, Heart of jesus, Snake plant, Flame of the woods, Garden croton, and more! There are 20 types of plants in total. Be sure to look out for these common plants when you’re walking on the streets, in parks, or public gardens.

Panama is home to an enormous variety of beautiful and unique Panamanian flowers. The rich volcanic soil in the country provides the perfect fertile ground for flowers of all kinds to grow. So much so that more than 10,000 species of native plants in Panama can’t be found anywhere else in the world. It is quite simply a flower lover’s heaven.

There are for each species: a botanical description, photos, scans, drawings, and a distribution map showing its presence or absence in a series of floristic inventories and plots established by the Center for Tropical Forest Science in the Panama Canal watershed.
