Samuel Riley Pierce Jr. (September 8, 1922 – October 31, 2000) was an American attorney and politician who served as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from January 23, 1981 until January 20, 1989, during the administration of Ronald Reagan.

Pierce worked as general counsel and head legal director of the U.S. Department of the Treasury from 1970 to 1973 and served as secretary of housing and urban development in the Reagan administration from 1981 to 1989.

Samuel Riley Pierce, Jr. (September 8, 1922 – October 31, 2000) was an American politician. He was Ronald Reagan's Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. He served as secretary from January 23, 1981 until January 20, 1989.

In the early 1990s, several Pierce's aides were found guilty or pleaded guilty to influence peddling and favoritism charges. In 1995, prosecutors announced that Pierce would not be charged. The first black to serve in Ronald Reagan's cabinet, Samuel Pierce, died in November 2000.

The President today nominated Samuel R. Pierce, Jr., of Long Island, N.Y., to be Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Mr. Pierce is a senior partner in the New York City law firm of Battle, Fowler, Jaffin, Pierce & Kheel.
