Put a card in the circle to block their way and keep guiding them away from the circle until they reach the dirt or something. But I guess that unless you know where the ant-hill is, or the pheromone trail back to it, you’re not really leading them anywhere helpful. They’ll just get into another death spiral when you leave.

I've never seen a death spiral, but I have seen small ants having ant wars with other colonies. Sometimes you'll see a huge mass of ants crawling on each other and there will be a line of ants coming from each colony into the fight, if you look closely you can see some carrying off the Dead.
