sandpaper grit for single stage urethane - Team Chevelle
2008年6月8日 · I started out with 80 grit and moved to 120. I used dry 220 grit paper on the board the last time around to remove the guide coat and take out the scratches from the rougher paper. . I have about a half box of 320 dry paper from 3m. These are the 3 1/2X9 sheets for my jitterbug. Is this 320 dry a fine enough grit for single stage urethane topcoats?
What grit before epoxy primer? - Team Chevelle
2011年7月8日 · They don't make DP anymore, it's DPLF and overpriced and inferior compared to the old DP. There's nothing wrong with R-M or U-Tech epoxy either. If you take it to a shop like you say, they will make product suggestions and choices. I don't like my customer's buying paint for me. The car should not be in bare metal long before primer.
Final sand before basecoat question - Team Chevelle
2014年9月27日 · 400-600 if sealing before basecoat. 600 if going straight to base. Your car must be lazer straight if all you needed was a couple coats of epoxy. If the bodywork and primer blocking was done all you had to do was seal and shoot your base. SPI dries slowly. Like most epoxies, you'll find it will clog the paper really fast if you drysand.
Do you wet sand base before clear? - Team Chevelle
2009年4月19日 · Be sure NOT TO USE FINER THAN 600 GRIT PAPER, or you may have a peeling problem. Depending on what clear you choose, you can put 2-3-4 coats of clear on, then sand the clear flat and buff. I start out cutting my clear with 800 grit, and work my way up to 3000 on the DA sander before I buff. All clear sanding is done wet.
Does anyone sand the base coat before the clear?? - Team Chevelle
2007年6月28日 · You can "nib" sand it but then always put a coat of paint over what you sand. Some put a final sand before the last coat of color which gives a smoother base so that when you sand and buff the clear you donot get to the basecoat around a imperfection. You do not want to clear over sanded basecoat.
Help! Used wrong grit sandpaper to strip paint | Team Chevelle
2009年4月15日 · You're OK, I'd just go over everything with, say, 80 grit or 100 grit. You may have some 40 grit scratches to fill, but not a problem. Not clear if you're dealing with three layers of paint or three paint jobs, I've used 40 grit to strip multiple paint jobs, but stop before bare metal, then finish with 80-120. Good luck. Ron.

What grit to sand w/ before primer? - Team Chevelle
2005年11月1日 · OK, ready to throw down some urethane primer on the body before I do the finish body work. Right now there is one coat of etch primer (SW 990) on bare metal over 90% of the car (trunk lid is new from goodmark). How and When do YOU use slick sand? - Team Chevelle
2010年2月5日 · Do you stop sanding the filler with 80 grit or do you sand it with 180 before you go to the slick sand? I am definatly going to be shooting SPI epoxy as a sealer, before the base. I was hammer and dollying over some SPI epoxy and welding right next to it on the inner wheelhouse this last weekend and you can not believe how tough this SPI epoxy ...
Wet sand between clear coats? - Team Chevelle
2007年10月5日 · i usually sand the middle of base coats. if 4 coats are required for coverage i sand number 2 coat then apply the other coats and then clear. the best thing to do if using high solid clears is to apply 2 wet coats, sand with 1500 let sit for at least 2 days to let solvents escape then apply 2 more coats. believe it or not it lets more light through and gets a way better gloss. …
