A 2-Gang plate is the same size as a 2-Gang socket. For switches it refers to the number of switches. 1-Gang, 2-Gang and 3-Gang switches may be the same size, but have 1, 2 or 3 switch buttons.

2021年4月11日 · Buy a better box if you want it to be sturdy. Partially because there's a shortage, I couldn't buy a 2-gang old work plastic blue box like the one you pictured in the question. Nearby, there was a much pricier fiberglass box that came with metal tabs. Not only will that box grip anything, it doesn't warp at all.

If there are studs at either end of a two gang switch box, that means they are approximately 4 inches apart. A three gang requires 6 inches. A switch box is usually about 3.5 inches high; with thickness that means turned sideways, it will fit in a dual ganged space. So you have room for 20 switches if you want: (from here)
