2022年6月21日 · I started playing overhand on a S-10 pedal steel, graduated to a D-10, but have mainly been playing 6-string lap steels for the last decade or so. I tried to get my head around an 8-string to no avail, but am getting fairly comfortable with 7, depending on the tuning.

2024年12月16日 · Here's an 8 string lap steel that was a rescue / restoration project. New Kluson pan and tuners, used George L pickup (not sure which one), new volume and tone pots, new nut and bridge, peel-and-stick fretboard from George Boards. Repainted in an off white / fossil color, with 3 coats of matte clear over it. It's a 22.5 inch scale.

2015年10月5日 · Last year at the North East of England Steel Guitar Festival I heard a lap steel player on a 6 string SX and it sounded good, but I didn't get to see the build quality of the guitar. He'd had the guitar brought back from the US by a friend, he'd payed around £100 ($135?) for it and he was delighted with it.

2013年9月30日 · B. That anybody could play this particular guitar very well as a pedal steel. Therefore I am toying with the idea of at least temporarily converting it to an 8 string non pedal console and tuning it to C6. The guitar basically has a very nice sound, and I prefer the console over the lap because I'm overweight and basically don't have a lap.

2021年12月2日 · I bought a SX 8 string and the 1st string was weaker than others, tone control was wimpy and basically sounded like crap. I opened the "rats nest" wiring and found it was wired incorrectly including the tone cap. Rewired and now 1st string isn't weak, tone and volume controls work as they should and plenty of volume.

2016年8月9日 · I have a Melbert 8 string Console [A FINE INSTERMENT] and the tuning I use is an E7th modified. Top to bottom. E,B,G#,E,C#,B,G#,E It works for me but I have been playing Lap steel since the '50 using E7th. However the popular tuning these days in C6th. Tried it but hard to teach an old dog new Tunings.
