Pgy4 anesthesia resident here and the answer is yes you can but you are going to have to live in certain parts of the country. Most of the east coast is supervision only (up to six in some states). Supervision is only going to get worse in terms of ratios IMO and also almost all residents don’t get to see the shady side of anesthesia.

But yes, general anesthesia is very much a case of "this could or would definitely kill you, but we are going to keep it from killing you." Body temp, for example. You lose the ability to regulate your body temperature under general anesthetic, so you have to be heated. It could easily kill you if you weren't kept heated.

Others, busy academic centers, call, trauma, etc., and everything in between. Typically in Anesthesia the more/harder you work the more you make, though some “holy grails” exist where that doesn’t quite hold.

2023年3月12日 · Not that you asked, but if it can be done with a local, do that. Being under anesthesia ain't all that great for your health. I had one carpal tunnel surgery with anesthesia and another with a local. Other than flirting with the nurse during the second one, I never felt a thing, and didn't fog my brain in the process.
