Going to make BACON jerky, got a dehydrator. Advice? : r/jerky
They do actually sell bacon jerky here and there judging from a quick google search. I understand that beef is much more practical to dehydrate, but I'm wanting to try out all sorts of things now that I've started! :) Maybe except for earthworm jerky, seems like that's a thing!

2024年1月2日 · Bacon has too much fat. I’m sure it can be done but in the home jerky making process, you want as little fat as possible. You’re preserving the meat by drying it. Fat doesn’t dry, it just stays in the meat and can go rancid or pick up funky flavors. Plus bacon is already preserved with the cure and the smoke.

2022年11月30日 · Actually heating/smoking at 160F is just popular these days because of a government rubber stamp, but it's not the only way to make jerky. Air-dried, sun-dried, freeze-dried, etc. - these methods all exist. There's a long history to jerky - probably going back much further than biltong. In the old days they didn't use any heat to make jerky.

2022年3月3日 · Bacon doesn't make the best jerky because it's so fatty. Think about beef jerky - you always use the leanest cuts possible because fat can go rancid even after dehydrating. I think cooking beforehand would be better because you render a lot of the fat out.

Smoked Bacon Jerky, very simple glaze recipe. Smoked at 200F
2021年9月22日 · Love this recipe, been refining it for a bit. Thick Cut bacon is a must if you want more of a chew, like you'd expect from jerky. Obviously you'll need to use typical bacon, not the uncured stuff. Here's the glaze I used: 2 tbsp Sriracha 1 tbsp Dijon mustard 1/4 cup brown sugar Thin glaze over the bacon.

2013年10月10日 · Bacon has too much fat. Anybody who has any experience with making jerky can back this up. It can be done, but the resulting product will not be what you might expect. It would be more ideal to smoke the bacon, then slow age the slab similar to how the Spanish do Jamón Ibérico, or the Italians to Prosciutto.
