The Barbary Coast Trail is a marked trail that connects a series of historic sites and several local history museums in San Francisco, California. Approximately 180 bronze medallions and arrows embedded in the sidewalk mark the 3.8-mile (6.1 km) trail.

The southern end of the Barbary Coast Trail begins at the Old U.S. Mint in the heart of downtown. From there it heads north, weaving its way through San Francisco’s most vibrant and historic neighborhoods to Aquatic Park. Included in our Barbary Coast Trail pocket guide.

The 1849 gold rush, 1906 earthquake and fire, and wave upon wave of immigrants influenced and shaped these neighborhoods.

For 3.8 miles (6.1 kilometers), the trail takes you past the Old Mint, Gold Rush-era buildings, the first Asian temple in the U.S., a World War II submarine, a Catholic cathedral, the site of the Pony Express headquarters, and other historical landmarks.
