Needs to last with high mileage and be fairly comfy on-road. Open to suggestions, reliability is king and I know it’s tough to beat those two. In summer, I can borrow my fiancées Subaru to save on gas mileage - we just both need AWD/4WD in winter. You can get a first or second gen for under 5k, or you can buy a brand new one for an absurd amount of money. The Landcruiser is also very good, but even more expensive. If you're considering older vehicles, the first and second generation Pathfinder is also good.
