Both Kernig and Brudzinski signs were poorly sensitive but highly specific in detecting pleocytosis and moderate pleocytosis. The low sensitivity resulted in likelihood ratios suggestive that Kernig and Brudzinski signs are ultimately unhelpful in increasing clinical suspicion for meningitis.
