2018年5月18日 · I've seen a good number of reports of this on this forum and elsewhere on the web. We have a 2010 Equinox LT. The engine just spun down to a halt while driving a city speed 2 days ago. Towed to Chevy dealer who opened up the engine and found all the timing chain guides are destroyed, the chain is stretched, and it skipped teeth.

What really aggravates me about this is that GM and Chevrolet know dang well that the 2010-2011 2.4L engine had total garbage pins on them, causing timing chain problems which lead them to stretch and make noise, which in very short time destroys the entire engine.

GM sent me a letter in July 2013 that said GM will repair the failed timing chain and fuel pump for NO CHARGE for 10years/120,000 miles. I think you need to call the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-222-1020 (The number in my letter) and explain your problem to them.

The cause is a leaking high pressure fuel pump leaking fuel into the oil and causing chain wear. The repair is to replace the balance shaft chain and tensioner along with the high pressure fuel pump and feed pipe. Sometimes there is additional damage to the timing chain guides which results in the timing chain kit being installed as well.
