Aug 4, 2007 · Chop saw blades have a tendency to glaze when they heat up and sometimes it's a real pain to get them cutting again. Let the work cool down and then try again. Also make sure the work is secure and flat on the table. This gets worse with the more angle you put on the cut. The cheaper the blades you use the more this problem shows up.

May 31, 2015 · Don't run the saw too fast, and adding some cutting oil helps--but use an OA torch to burn the oil off before welding. Where possible, I use a portable metal cutting band saw, but they're a bit bulky and have limited thickness capability--but they really cut nicely! I'm scared of buying HF grinding and cut-off wheels.

Often when cutting off larger thicker steel with an abrasive (made for steel) 14" cut off the sparks and cutting stop and the steel gets hot. I can detect the the "blade" is hot but only for a very short time. Even after the blade and steel cool several min. it will not cut unless I wait for a long period of time, about an hour it will cut again.

Mar 18, 2006 · Jig saw, very slow and just doesn’t work very well regardless of what blade I use, Grinder with a cut of wheel is even worse. The fastest thing I have found so far is a skill saw with a wood carbide blade. But after 20 or so cuts the blade gets dull and gummed up, it’s also loud as **** and make a huge mess and I can only do straight cuts.

It piviots the Whole base so you don't have to turn the whole piece of steel. Look at the saw I have its a cold chop saw blade doesn't give when I've cut angels.

I can cut shims from pipe with the 14" saw a 1/16" thick and they are dead on thickness wise. You wont do that with a band saw. Only down side is the blades are expensive. Long as you don't knock any teeth off them they last awhile though. I still use the big band saw for certain cuts or large material but really try to use the dry saws when I can.
Need a speed control to reduce my chopsaw speed.
Mar 9, 2008 · With my Porter Cable 1410, the instruction manual (yea, I do read those things) says specifically, NOT to cut rebar. That's why I kept my DeWalt chop saw (for mystery metal). You may want to check out FleaBay for spare blades. If you do a search for Freud Saw Blades, you'll find the Freud Diablo 14" Metal Cutting Blades. I've picked up 4 spares.
