Welcome to the DR9 site!!! This website presents data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, a project to make a map of a large part of the universe. We would like to show you the beauty of the universe, and share with you our excitement as we build the largest map in …
Data Release 9 (DR9) is the ninth public data release of the Legacy Surveys. It is the seventh public data release of images and catalogs from DECaLS (DR8 comprised the sixth release of data from DECaLS) and the fourth release of data from BASS and MzLS (DR8 comprised the third release of data from BASS and MzLS).
Data Release 9 is the first release of the spectra from the SDSS-III's Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS), which includes more than 800,000 spectra over 3,300 square degrees of sky, observed with the new 1,000-fiber BOSS spectrograph.
The new data in DR9 are not only helping us understand the distant Universe, but also our own cosmic backyard, the Milky Way galaxy. DR9 includes better estimates for the chemical compositions of more than half a million stars in our own galaxy.
Twenty files of random points in bricks that do not contain an observation in DR9 (that are "outside" of the DR9 footprint). The columns in this file are simplified compared to the other random catalogs as most of the entries in the additional columns would be zeros.
