The drawings illustrate a manuscript of Dante's Divine Comedy. The entire thematic sequence of each canto was supposed to be illustrated by its own full-page drawing by Botticelli, an unprecedentedly ambitious conception.

2015年10月2日 · Among the most memorable and bewitching reimaginers is the celebrated French illustrator, sculptor, printmaker, and engraver Gustave Doré (January 6, 1832–January 23, 1883), who considered Dante’s work a “ chefs-d’oeuvre of literature.”

French sculptor Auguste Rodin’s bronze work shows that romantic, but damning, kiss. Rodin designed this sculpture for his Gates of Hell, two bronze doors inspired by Dante’s Inferno. His iconic sculpture, The Thinker, also came from this work. The man resting his chin on his hand represents Dante.
