The coat of arms of the Dominican Republic is one of the most significant patriotic symbols for the country, since it represents the Free State, Independence and Sovereign. Created in the Independence age, just as the flag, it has been altered through the time in countless occasions.

The current official National Coat of Arms of the Dominican Republic has been designed by Casimiro Nemesio de Moya – a Dominican Politician. It features a shield in quartered colors of the national flag, with a laurel branch to the left and a palm frond to the right.

The Escudo or Coat of Arms is centrally located in the white cross. The Dominican Republic flag is the only flag in the world with a symbol of a bible on it. The merchant ensign flag is the same as the National Flag without the coat of arms and this flag is considered to be the civil flag.

NATIONAL ARMS OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. The arms above have been in use since 1919. The first national symbol for the new republic was designed in 1844. The logo showed three flags, a bible, a Phrygian hat (symbol of freedom), some spears and other weapons and two laurel branches. (see below).
