Feb 8, 2018 · I tend towards darker strings, so I've been a long-time Lo-Riders user. Had a set on my '76 4001 Rickenbacker for a long time, discovered some of the dreaded tail-lift, so on the advice of a couple of luthiers switched to Hi-Beams, since they are supposed to be lower tension than the Lo-Riders.

Jun 10, 2021 · Last time I tried a set of DR Black Beauties which are essentially the same thing, except coated black, they were just too stankin' bright for me. My favorite rounds at this point have been .045-.135 (5 string) D'addario Nickels and Pro steels.

Apr 14, 2015 · I tried them out on my Precision Bass and I literally went bug-eyed from the tone of the bass. The CS62 pickup helped a lot definitely but these strings are no joke. DR is doing something right! The only con is that it's sort of expensive, but I guess that's a small price to pay for such amazing strings! 10/10! I would recommend these to anyone!

Dec 31, 2009 · So I tune my bass to ADGCF. For a long time I used the DR long necks, but i kept breaking the D because the strings are tapered at the top and bottom. I switch to some Daddario pro steels, and they sound decent but I had to buy the low B separate. My strings are starting to die so I went to...

Aug 9, 2004 · actually, i've been in the habit of measuring all my new strings for some time now, and most are pretty true. 1/1000th off here or there, even 2/1000th now and then. several are dead on more often than not, and DR are almost unfailingly at least 2/1000th off on at least a couple strings per set. not a scientific study, but compelling enough to me.

Jun 14, 2013 · Keep in mind that DR's "short scale" is 33.75" in winding length (ball end to taper), which is most other companies' "medium scale". I think that's what's needed on a violin bass. While, the GHS Precision Flats come both in "medium scale" (35.5" winding) and "short scale" (32.75" winding), the Pressurewounds are only available in "short scale ...

May 13, 2012 · In my experience stainless strings lose their brightness the fastest, especially Roto 66s. You need to experiment to find the right strings for you and your instrument. I play a lot of heavy music, and I like a bright and aggressive sound, I never thought that high tension flatwounds would be the perfect string for me and my main bass, but they ...

Mar 11, 2013 · DR sunbeams - most lifeless inconsistent set I have had on a 30" scale bass - dull, will never buy again Because I'm still up at 1am after doing my taxes, I'll include the following: Daddario tapes are ok, but inconsistent tone as the D and G are much brighter than the E and A.

Oct 26, 2010 · My D'Addario strings have been feeling dead lately and I think it's time to switch back to DR's. I've only ever tried Fat Beams from them. I'm debating what to go with now. I plan to get a 5-string E-C set. I don't plan to slap too often, but …
