Drag coefficient - Wikipedia
In fluid dynamics, the drag coefficient (commonly denoted as: , or ) is a dimensionless quantity that is used to quantify the drag or resistance of an object in a fluid environment, such as air or water. It is used in the drag equation in which a lower drag coefficient indicates the object will have less aerodynamic or hydrodynamic drag.
Drag Coefficient - The Engineering ToolBox
The drag coefficient quantifies the drag or resistance of an object in a fluid environment. Any object moving through a fluid experiences drag - the net force in the direction of flow due to pressure and shear stress forces on the surface of the object.
Drag Coefficient | Glenn Research Center | NASA
2024年7月19日 · We can predict the drag that will be produced under a different set of velocity, density (altitude), and area conditions using the drag equation. The drag coefficient contains not only the complex dependencies of object shape and inclination, but also the effects of air viscosity and compressibility.
Drag Equation | Glenn Research Center | NASA
2024年7月15日 · Drag Coefficient. One way to deal with complex dependencies is to characterize the dependence by a single variable. For drag, this variable is called the drag coefficient, designated “Cd.” This allows us to collect all the effects, …
Drag Coefficient - Definition, Formula, Calculation, Uses, FAQs
When an object moves through a fluid, then to compute its resistance, the coefficient used is known as the Drag coefficient, denoted by C d. The coefficient of drag is dimensionless, which is helpful in calculating aerodynamic drag and the impact of shape, inclination and conditions of flow in aerodynamics.
6.7: Drag Force and Terminal Speed - Physics LibreTexts
Drag forces acting on an object moving in a fluid oppose the motion. For larger objects (such as a baseball) moving at a velocity in air, the drag force is determined using the drag coefficient, the …
3.5.7: The Coefficient of Drag - Mathematics LibreTexts
The resistive force is characterized by the dimensionless drag coefficient \[C_{D}=\dfrac{F_{D}}{\dfrac{1}{2} \rho U^{2} L^{2}}\nonumber \] where \(L\) and \(U\) are the characteristic length and speed of the object moving through the fluid. There has been much attention focussed on relating the drag coefficient to the Reynolds number.
The Drag Equation - NASA
One way to deal with complex dependencies is to characterize the dependence by a single variable. For drag, this variable is called the drag coefficient, designated " Cd." This allows us to collect all the effects, simple and complex, into a single equation.
