Description: Roemer’s fescue is a native cool season perennial bunchgrass with variable longevity and mostly basal foliage. It is short, fine textured, and densely tufted, and has stiff culms that grow 35-100 cm tall. The panicle (seed head) is open and 5-20 cm long.

Roemer’s Fescue (Festuca roemeri or Festuca idahoensis ssp roemeri) is a highly-ornamental bunchgrass with compact tufts that usually stand less than one foot tall. It's an evergreen, looking its finest in the cooler months when it sports lush blue-green foliage.

Willamette Valley Germplasm Roemer’s fescue is a native cool season, perennial bunchgrass with mostly basal foliage that is fine-textured and dense. Variation among plants is high. Leaf color varies from shades of green to pale blue. The stiff, erect, smooth stems terminate in an open seedhead and grow 28-45 inches tall on average.

As a dominant matrix species of native grassland ecosystems, Festuca roemeri is highly desirable for restoration, rehabilitation and revegetation projects west of the Cascades from the Georgia Basin in the north and ranging as far south as San Francisco Bay.
