2023年5月9日 · Fukienese Now look I'm sorry I know this isn't the best place to ask this but there is no other place I can think of to ask this type of question. When I was growing up, my mom used to say "ptooey" and when I asked what she was saying she would say "its something that my parents used to say in Fukienese, and its something like ptooey".
Anyone know of a private Fukienese or Tagalog instructor?

2023年11月20日 · It is very different. Vast majority of local HKers have been in HK for generations. Most of my friends do not have any living relatives that were not born in HK (and people born in HK by and large only speak Cantonese NOT mandarin or that was the case until the last ten years).
Any Chinese restaurants/markets in town speak Fukienese?

But you could also run into Mandarin, Taishanese, Teochew, Fukienese, or another (probably southern) dialect. There's no one right answer. It would probably be best to learn greetings in both Cantonese and Mandarin and either ask the translator what to use, or figure it out from listening to the conversation.
