A few years back I came here and asked about Harbor Freight's boat trailer kit. At the time it was pretty much my only option unless I wanted to keep putting my 14' aluminum v-hull in my truck bed. I was told not to bother and that I'd be lucky to get one or two seasons out of the thing before it totally fell apart and was covered in rust.

The trailer will be closer to the ground with 8" tires and make it easier to launch on a shallow ramp. On a boat trailer for an aluminum skiff driven by a guy with a new child those tires are almost certainly going to dry rot before you wear them out.

I only shop at Harbor Freight for small light use stuff. I've had bad experiences with power tools and machine stuff that they carry. I bought a tap and die set that broke on the first use! I agree the trailer is a big part of a boat's sale. I went to look at a boat yesterday because the price was just too good to believe for that model.

Otherwise that trailer would work but the price seems high for a 5yr old trailer. I can get a new galvanized torsion axle trailer for 1k where I live. You could also get a small utility trailer and be able to haul stuff around when needed. A few years ago I purchased a 4x8 utility trailer and regret not getting one sooner.

If your truck tires slip moving the trailer, the tractor tires will also slip unless the drive belt slips first. The boat you're talking about outweighs the lawn tractor by more than 10:1. That, and the 600 lb tongue weight are going to be too much for that tractor I have the same Craftsman lawn tractor. It struggles with moving much smaller loads.
