Herod the Great (73/74 BCE – 4 BCE) founded a dynasty that ruled Judea for over a hundred years, from his ascension to power in 37 BCE to the death of Agrippa II in 92 CE. The Harvard Theological Review states that Herod sired at least 15 children in an effort to secure his lineage.
