There's a small program that I use called DesktopOK - it saves your icons arrangements, so you can restore to previous arrangement map.

Upgraded to Windows 10 a couple of weeks and just noticed that almost all of the icons on my desktop have a small red X in the lower-left corner. The recycle bin and some documents seem to be the exceptions. Don't know if this occurred right after the upgrade or more recently. Any ideas on what this is supposed to indicate?

Feb 21, 2023 · I don't know what exactly happened, but my desktop on Windows 11 doesn't show the icons anymore. It only displays the Recycle bin and, for some reason, when it is selected the shaded region is now a horizontal line (this shaded region indicates icon selection and usually is just a square shaded region around the icon).

So if you literally have 50 folders with tons of junk in them, or gigs of movies on the desktop, then it can degrade performance and on ear startup time. I have literally had over 50gb sitting on my desktop, and my computer ran like crap (Intel i5 with 8gb ram and 1tb hard drive).
