I think there was another spin-off of part of Alcatel-Lucent too before Nokia acquired them. Wow, what a complex chain of events. I used to own stock in Lucent and therefore some of these companies.

It takes the sending trustee a couple of days just to print and mail the check, then it needs several days to be handled/delivered by the carrier and then processed/posted by the new trustee once received.

Kids need new clothing, braces, new technologies, maybe a car at 16, summer in a language program in Europe, college. I'd suggest you consider all this in your planning. If you don't have a 529 set up already, I'd look in to it.
