Pulse sequences and the vector model
Pulse sequences are used to excite signals that are observed in an NMR spectrometer. They range from general purpose single-pulse experiments to complex highly sophisticated experiments that select specifically interacting nuclei.
Although literally hundreds of other pulse sequences are available, the simple, basic s2pulcan be used to carry out routine nmr measurements, obtain quantitative nmr spectra, perform homonuclear and heteronuclear decoupling, NOE and solvent suppression experiments. One can also use the s2pulsequence to perform relaxation and kinetic measurements.
All the NMR users need to understand how the different NMR pulse sequences work in order to make the necessary experimental adjustments, to interpret correctly the spectral results and to choose the most appropriate pulse sequence to obtain the desired information.
