The P90 is an extremely flat shooting automatic weapon despite its high, 900 rounds per minute, cyclic rate. It has been adopted by over a dozen nations, primarily for special operations and counter terrorism units while Belgium is the only country to have adopted it for its original purpose to arm rear echelon troops.

The FN P90 is a personal defense weapon chambered for the 5.7×28mm cartridge, also classified as a submachine gun, designed and manufactured by FN Herstal in Belgium.

This is where dedicated PDWs such as the p90 have the advantage over carbine derivatives. Carbines are as complex and sensitive as regular rifles, unlike the much more rugged and simplified closed specialized PDWs.
