How it started; good times; bad fights, what went wrong and anything that caused you to ask the question in the first place. 2nd card is the present. What is going on right now.

The narrator narrating in present tense doesn't change the fact that, if the writing is good, then the story has a certain direction to it and is built from beginning to end to reach the same conclusion.
