2024年8月30日 · Plantar fibromatosis (plural: fibromatoses), also known as Ledderhose disease, refers to a benign fibroblastic proliferation of the plantar fascia. It is classified as a type of musculoskeletal fibromatosis.

Plantar fibroma is a non-encapsulated thickening and proliferation of the central and medial bands of the plantar fascia. This lesion is histologically similar to Dupuytren contracture. Some patients have an inherited tendency to both palmar and plantar fibromas.

The case shows ultrasound features of a plantar fibroma originating from great toe plantar fascia slip.

Radiographs typically reveal a nonspecific soft-tissue mass, and calcification is common only in juvenile aponeurotic fibroma. Advanced imaging (ultrasonography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance [MR] imaging) demonstrates lesion extent.

Ultrasound and MRI are both acceptable imaging modalities to aid in the diagnosis of plantar fibromas. On an MRI, plantar fibromas appear as focal, oval-shaped areas of disorganization embedded in the plantar fascia; however, larger, more lobulated lesions continuous with the plantar fascia are also recognized.

Plantar fibromatosis manifests as superficial lesions along the deep plantar aponeurosis, which typically blend with the adjacent plantar musculature. Linear tails of extension (“fascial tail sign”) along the aponeurosis are frequent.

2012年2月11日 · We report MRI features of bilateral plantar fibromatosis in the feet with concomitant hand involvement of palmar fibromatosis and dorsal knuckle pads. A 59-year-old woman presented with an 8-year history of nodules on the plantar surface of both feet.

Radiographic findings of plantar fasciitis include PF thickening, cortical irregularities and abnormalities in the fat pad located deep below the PF. Plantar fibromatosis appears as well-demarcated, nodular thickenings that are iso-hypoechoic on ultrasound and show low-signal intensity on MRI.

2017年9月18日 · A plantar fibroma is a nodular mass composed of spindle cells and variable amounts of collagen that arises in the plantar aponeurosis of the foot. Plantar fibromas are related to palmar fibromas seen in Dupuytren disease, as well as other forms of fibromatosis.
