A garden for photographers is one that is constantly evolving. Add plants with visual interest, foliage plants with texture, or twining vines with beautiful blossoms. When your garden is thriving, you will have a range of plant life a photographer can work with – seedlings and mature plants, buds and flowers, and pollinators of different kinds.

To build a successful garden photography career, one must actively engage with the photography community, showcase their work to potential clients, and pursue both freelance and full-time job opportunities.

Playing with techniques like multiple exposures and ICM can be very liberating and bring another dimension to your garden photography. You don’t have to follow any rules, nor do you need an expensive camera with an in-built multiple exposure option – I use my phone and an inexpensive app to create many of my garden abstracts.

My advice for anyone wanting to shoot good garden images is to select your garden carefully; somewhere photogenic. Shoot in good weather, preferably on a day without wind. Shooting at the beginning or end of the day gives you the most attractive light.
