Before we go any further with this discussion, if you are new to automotive you should know that the APQP and Control Plan manual is a ‘reference’ manual. It is a part of Ford, GM and Chrysler’s QS-9000 (now IATF 16949) ‘quality’ systems requirements. QS-9000 (now IATF 16949) is a ‘standard’ but not in the usual sense.

Before we get too far off the track, you need to turn to ISO 9004-1, paragraph 14, "Nonconformity." This is an excellent example of where ISO 9004-1 clarifies a QS-9000 (now TS 16949) requirement using simple and straight forward language. Also note how additional steps are suggested for controlling nonconforming goods.

Mar 15, 2001 · I'm going to suggest you do some reading first to bring yourself to the point where you understand what ISO 9001 is. There are a lot of areas fo go on this site alone. If you look around there is even a matrix or two which quite well define the basic relationships. Many, however, are alignments of QS-9000 and ISO 9001:1994.
