This isn't unique to Japanese > English learners and isn't the "fault" of katakana, even if people use the term "katakana English" to refer to the problem. 2015年11月27日 · But if you're using a katakana surname, a katakana forename is the only natural option, as I mentioned earlier. Don't feel pressurized to pick a Kanji unless it suits you. There are a lot of native Japanese with hiragana names, and lots of Korean Zainichi who even just use kana completely (even though most Koreans can write their names in 漢字).

Also, I take it that we're talking about Japanese (国語), and standard forms rather than Ainu and colloquialisms, where the combinations are different. Katakana and hiragana are two different renders of same syllabary (so there's one hiragana and one katakana for each syllable that sounds exactly the same). Also you can write any word in Japanese with either hiragana or katakana.

2014年2月20日 · It's not a wholly Japanese word. It's a shortening of [空]{から} ('empty') and オーケストラ. So, since at least part of it needs to be written with katakana, the whole word is written with katakana. (Switching between the two within one word typically only happens in slang verbs like サボる.)
