The Russell/Engleman Rheumatology Research Center at UCSF was established in 1979 by a one-time Congressional appropriation to posthumously honor Rosalind Russell, a famous stage and screen actress who had rheumatoid arthritis and who had been a tireless advocate for research to improve the lives of people with rheumatic diseases.

Unluckily, crippling rheumatoid arthritis shortened Rosalind’s career. The United States Congress made the Rosalind Russel Medical Research Center for Arthritis in commemoration to her labor in raising alertness.
