2009年3月7日 · The I-frame had a very short cylinder window, too short to accommodate a cylinder long enough for the .38 Special cartridge. So, essentially, the frame was simply stretched enough to build the .38 Specials, the Chief's Special, etc. In time, the I-frame was dropped, and the then Kit guns, etc. were built on the J-frame.

With a few exceptions in the S&W line, the J-frames are intended as defense guns, which are normally used at ranges measured in feet rather than yards.

2020年2月17日 · Ordered the Hogue S&W J Frame Round Butt Rubber Monogrip Black to try for the range. Put on the smooth S&W wood grips and they worked good with no recoil issues and no snag. Just wanted to try the larger grip for the range. Really love shooting these little guys. Getting much better with accuracy and have much more time with it at the range.

2006年5月14日 · A second Model 29 I had fitted with 5" full lug barrel. This barrel turned in the frame, so I had my gunsmith pin the barrel. After about 8,000 rounds the barrel stub split. Smith replaced the barrel with a new one. These two .44 Magnum revolvers are the only ones I've had break down, and for a DA revolver, Smith wins hands down with me.

I removed the original equipment rubber boot grips and replaced them with a set of magna diamond grips and a Tyler T-Grip. The more I look at that configuration, though, the less I like it.

2021年10月24日 · I bought my first J-Frame the Model 49 Bodyguard almost 40 years ago. It was my first J-Frame that came with the original wooden grips. Shortly after I bought the Tyler T adapter that I saw at a gun show then the stag grips. Both made a big difference. But I always wanted the all stainless Model 640 in 38 Special.
