Sougia on the South coast of Crete
Sougia is a small village located by the Libyan sea, about 75 km from the city of Chania, Crete. Sougia, despite its long beach and its crystal clear sea is one of the quietest places to spend a holiday on Crete.

Getting to Sougia. Sougia is located at the end of a long valley in the south-west of Crete about 75 km from the city of Chania. This scenic road goes up to the pass of Agia Irini and back down to sea level and is therefore quite a winding road.

Sougia is a small village located by the Libyan sea, about 75 km from the city of Chania. Maybe the narrow winding road which links the village to the north of Crete put off tour operators from offering package holidays there.
The beach of Sougia
The beach of Sougia is 1,2 km long and is the longest beach in the South-West of Crete. It is also quite wide (up to 70 meters in places). Although it is a pebble beach, these vary a lot in size and there are plenty of places where they are very small, more like coarse sand and it is not at all uncomfortable to lie on them.
What to do in Sougia
What to do in Sougia. Many people come to Sougia in order to have a quiet time and enjoy its beautiful beach. For the more active there are a fair number of things to do. A walk to nearby Lissos is almost a must.
Walk to Tripiti - Sougia
This is a beautiful coastal walk leading to the steep hill that you can see to the East of Sougia. The walk is on a reasonably good, well-marked path with plenty of shade but it is quite long (around 4 hours) so going there and back in one day can be very tiring.
