However, you can use Shading set to apply to selected text instead. With shading you can use virtually unlimited colors. Shading can be set under the Borders drop down - choose Borders and Shading at the bottom of the drop-down and pick your color. You can create a character style for this and attach a keyboard shortcut to it if you want.
