1994年9月30日 · In January 1982 Hunley crossed to Atlantic to take up station at Holy Loch, Scotland. After spending five years on station at Holy Lock, she was relieved by USS Simon Lake and headed for the US in July 1987.

She departed from the Norfolk Operating Base 29 December 1962 for Holy Loch, Scotland, arriving 9 January 1963. Almost immediately she began taking the load off USS Proteus, whom she officially relieved 15 March 1963 as tender to Submarine Squadron 14 at Holy Loch.

On 25 January 1982, USS HUNLEY (AS-31) returned to Holy Loch for her second tour as the Submarine Squadron Fourteen tender. Members of the Squadron, tender, and drydock continued to support a multitude of community functions and organizations.

Early this year, a unique Navy ship left the East Coast and pushed across the Atlantic to her new home port, Holy Loch, Scotland. There, on 15 February, she relieved the USS Proteus, the only other Polaris submarine tender in the world.

The Holy Loch was a Royal Navy Submarine base during World War II and the Firth of Clyde was one of the Royal Navy’s major submarine areas. Site One, as the base was known, was composed of three major commands, plus the Naval Support Activity.

USS Hunley, a 19,000 ton submarine tender built at Newport News, Virginia, was commissioned in June 1962. The first new tender designed to support ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs), she was based at Holy Loch, Scotland, and Charleston, South Carolina, during 1963-67.

After a shakedown cruise and post shakedown yard availability, Hunley departed Norfolk on 29 December 1962 for Holy Loch, Scotland, arriving 9 January 1963. Almost immediately she began taking the load off Proteus.
