Vox AC15: which versions are good? - The Gear Page
Aug 15, 2013 · I'm looking at buying a Vox ac15 used here locally and I keep reading about how there are different variations and you have to get a good one. Which version should I be looking for? The one I'm looking at is 5 months old from the original owner, it's the ac15c1 and has the celestion greenback speaker in it.

Aug 1, 2016 · The DRRI struggled with drive pedals at low volumes due to the bright cap. The Vox AC15TBX actually took drive pedals better because of that. I really like on the AC15HW that you can switch the master volume out of the circuit. Vox circuits and master volumes don't play that great together, so its nice that you can remove it.

Sep 16, 2016 · I settled on a Vox AC15HW TV. The Vox is pickier with pedals, and I do not like the sound of a Klone or Russian Muff with an AC15. They both sound very boxy to me. The Fender takes pedals easier, and your Musket and Klone would work well with it IMHO. I have a separate, small pedalboard for my Vox with pedals that work great with it.

Jun 28, 2017 · Bought a Vox AC15HW as part of a deal with selling my Two Rock Bi-Onyx head plus some cash my way. I have to say I am absolutely delighted with the VoxAC15. We retubed it with JJ's and the tone and dynamics are fantastic. Huge sound for a 15 watt.

Oct 12, 2021 · The “real” Vox AC15C1 is a combo and super heavy. So it’s really not in the running. This amp would be used at jams and small gigs so a light head and small cab (got that covered) is what I’m looking for. Let me know any information you might have on either Winfield or Frenzel as well as opinions and any other suggestions. Thanks! Pete

Jul 25, 2016 · For sound, I'd probably take the Fender over the Vox, but for longevity the Fender will eventually die and be "non-repairable", the Vox is easy to work on and should last a lifetime. If you'd asked Vox AC15HW vs late 70s Deluxe Reverb, my answer would have been the reverse.
