David Warther's work is a collection of intricately carved miniatures that depict sailing ships from ancient Egypt, circa 3000 B.C. to modern times. The collection, now numbering over 80 ship carvings, is a highly educational exhibit of maritime history.

The Gift Shop at David Warther Carvings has become a destination in itself with visitors stopping in regularly to see what Leona, our gift shop manager, has brought in as new seasonal gift ware, clothing and home decor.

David Warther II, born in 1959, is a master ivory carver living near the city of Dover in northeast Ohio. According to David's parents, he began carving from elephant tusk ivory at the age of three. At the age of six, David carved his first ship, a Viking vessel.

Carvings Gallery. Welcome to our on-line gallery of David's carvings. The photos in our gallery show each of his ships from several angles as well as highly-detailed, close-up views. In addition to the photos, viewers are provided a brief history of the carving and an explanation of the ship's purpose and function at the time it lived and sailed.

The carvings created by David depict the "History of the Ship" from 1st Dynasty Egypt, circa 3000 B.C., to the present day, and collectively form an artistic and highly educational exhibit that culturally enriches all who view these extraordinary works of art.
