Each MLS head gasket is coated with a .001" thick Viton rubber that is bonded to the outer stainless steel layers. Adding an additional sealer can hinder the performance of an MLS head gasket."

2012年5月15日 · I am getting ready to finish assembly on my 383 sbc. I am using Commetic MLS gaskets for the first time and wanted to ask for pointers. The gasket is part #C5248-040 it is bore size 4.165 and .040 thickness. My main question is I have been told to use copper coat by everyone I know that runs these gaskets. Yet Cometic suggest to use them dry.

2008年7月2日 · I've re-used the MLS Cometic gaskets without any issues. If I'm swapping heads during a dyno test or something like that I just wipe the gaskets clean and re-use them. I never coat the gaskets with anything since Cometic recommends that they be put on dry. I only work on BB Mopar engines though and they have 17 head bolts.

2006年12月12日 · Cometic head gaskets are indeed not junk. They are a very good head gasket. They do however have their applications and limtiations. Most of the problems people have with cometic and other MLS head gaskets come from improper installation. MLS headgaskets must be installed with an extremely smooth head and block surface.

2009年2月17日 · I just recently tried cleaning a head gasket to reuse it, and it turned into a major pain. I tried brake cleaner, paint remover, acetone, and goof-off. Only a few patches of the viten (black stuff) would come off. The more I tried to clean it the more doubt it put in my head about reusing. I ended up buying a new cometic $94 bucks from Bonehead.

2005年1月14日 · I put Cometic gaskets on a 540 Chevy blown gas Jet Boat engine and had no problems. no o-rings, no leaks. 8.25 static compression PSI A blower 25 lbs boost @ 80% overdrive. 1544 hp @ 7200 rpm. This was the first set I have used. We even took them off once during assembly & once during the dyno session. They are reusable.
